The Waitakere Ranges Regional Park hug the Auckland region's west coast, and offer a wealth of things to do outdoors. Sandy beaches, foaming waterfalls, a plethora of walking tracks plus camping facilities in the forest - it's a nature lover's paradise.
Hike through the lush woodland to find the Kitekite Falls, Fairy Falls and Karekare Falls. Go birdspotting for tui, kaka and kereru, or get lucky and see other natural wonders like the giant kauri snail, long tailed bat, or hotchetetter's frog, all in their natural habitats.
The Waitakere Ranges are now enjoying the benefits of a proactive pest control system, so the ecosystem is better equipped to encourage the growth of native species.
At the Arataki Visitor Centre, you can sit down with a cup of coffee while you decide what to do with your day. There are guides, brochures, maps and a whole host of other information about what you can see and do here.
